I ran into an Outlook error today that required a few minutes of research. The error displayed “Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Unable to open the Outlook window.” First, I ran the scanpst tool, found some errors, backed up the PST, and performed the repair. Outlook displayed the same error when starting up. A quick Microsoft KB search brought up the same error description but none of the fixes worked.
Buried in one of the forum posts for techguy.org was a fix for the issue. Hit the Start bubble, type “Outlook.exe /resetnavpane” in the search pane, hit enter. If using XP it’s Start, Run, type “Outlook.exe /resetnavpane,” hit enter. In both, don’t use the quotes.
