Problem with Blackberry sync with ACT using CompanionLink

I had a client with syncing issue after upgrading to Windows 7. The client uses older versions of CompanionLink and Blackberry Desktop Manager and experienced trouble finding support for why the sync with ACT failed.

The solution for the issue relates to making sure the optional DLL mode is checked. I listed the full setup guide below.

Blackberry Desktop v4 and CompanionLink 3.0 Setup

  1. Install CompanionLink 3.0
  2. Once installed go to 'Settings', then select 'Next' until you see 'Configure' under your Contact Manager.
  3. Select the 'BlackBerry OS Version' tab.
  4. Select the checkbox for '(Optional) DLL Mode.'
  5. Close and Reopen BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  6. In BlackBerry Desktop, Go to Synchronize, then Add-Ins.
  7. Make sure 'CompanionLink Sync v4' is checked.
  8. Go back to the Main menu, then select the Synchronize menu item, and then select the 'Synchronize' button to start a sync.
NOTE: This new alternate method will display the sync progress in the Desktop Manager message box. CompanionLink itself will not show any sync progress.
